Yuri NG had tailor-choreographed the piece in 1996 for six of the male dancers of City Contemporary Dance
Company. It wittily depicts the male anxiety on self-identity, as well as the pursuit, struggle, and survival in the
modern society. This full-length work is of 60 minutes duration and had won the Prix d’Auteur at the Rencontres
Choreographiques Internationale de Seine-St-Denis in France. A 20-miniutes excerpt is to be performed at the
Beijing Dance Festival.
Born in Hong Kong, Yuri NG began classical ballet training with Jean WONG and later, he pursued further studies in Canada and the UK under scholarship. He was awarded the Adeline Genée Gold Medal from the Royal Academy of Dancing in 1983 before joining The National Ballet of Canada as a dancer. Since his return to Hong Kong in 1993, NG received the “Artist of the Year Award – Choreographer” from the Hong Kong Artists’ Guild in 1997 and in 1998, he was awarded Prix d’Auteur at the 6th Rencontres Choreographiques Internationale de Seine-St-Denis (Bagnolet) with his choreography of Boy Story. He received the “Distinguished Achievement Award" at the Hong Kong Dance Awards 2012 and the Award for Best Artist (Dance) from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in 2013. Yuri is a diversified and omnipotent artist who is active at modern dance, ballet and Chinese folk dance fields. His works are considerably recognized by Hong Kong’s three major dance company: City Contemporary Dance Company, Hong Kong Ballet and Hong Kong Dance Company.
